Unlike FRA, First Class check-in is the main T-2 terminal. It is a separate area, well inside the terminal just beside security. Check-in was easy and there was no one in the First Class security line.

Although we could have entered the FCL from the lower G concourse, we took the escalator upstairs, cleared passport control and entered the FCL from the H concourse about two hours before our 11:45 departure. With three families of children, this was the most day-care like we've ever seen the FCL. Nevertheless, the FCL is always a great way to spend time pre-flight.

Since we had not eaten at the hotel, we decided to have breakfast.

At about T-40, we headed over to H-14 to board. There used to be a secondary security check for US-bound flights. It wasn't being used today, although the FCL dragon seem rather clueless about it when I asked. "There may or may not be security" was the helpful response.

Lufthansa First Class Lounge at Munich

What a pleasure to come back to a great lounge. Pleasant check-in staff had the manifests for inbound arrivals and welcomed us in. Mrs. SFO almost lost it when she walked in and saw Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Bastrds, Water for Elephants) or so she thought. She gushed "hello, how are you today". I'm still not convinced it was him especially after the passport control agent mentioned a different name. Oh well, I'm not going to ruin her fun. At least she didn't run after him shouting his name, like she did with Gene Hackman a few years ago at the Campton Place.

Agent gave us more good news tonight as she advised that our flight to ARN was departing from the tarmac, so we will have to take a limo to the plane. Ah, what a shame. I was still stuffed from dinner and breakfast, so we passed on food and relaxed for the next two hours.

I opted for a refreshing shower in the Rubber Duckie room.

At 7:05p, we gathered our belongings and headed downstairs for our limo ride. A brand new Porsche Cayenne was our ride tonight, and our driver was more than happy to show us how fast his V-8 wheels could go. For the third time today, Princess gushes "this is the only way to go" I do try.

April 2010

A long 15 minute walk and we arrived at the FCL.

Our good fortune continued as the agent informed us that since our MUC-BCN flight would board from the tarmac position, we would "have to take a limo tonight". Ah, what a shame!

Across from the check-in desk is the FCL's in house Customs/Immigration. There was no line and we were quickly processed and welcomed to the lounge. The MUC FCL is light years ahead of the UA FCL. Service staff everywhere, bringing drinks and snacks, serving meals in dining area, and keeping the lounge spotless.

I headed for the shower with Mrs. SFO deciding to try to sleep off her hangover in the one the two sleeping rooms.

At 19h00, we headed downstairs to the Limo Dispatch center. A few minutes later, we were on our way in a Mercedes S-class Hybrid to our MUC-BCN flight.

What a great night and day. Even the crappy LH Y disguised as Business Class connector didn't bother me today, especially as I was able to book row 1. From SFO-Europe, it doesn't get much better than LH First and the amazing FCL/FCTs in FRA and MUC.
