Off to SIngapore

With another 4 day hall pass, I’m off to Singapore for 30 hours and three great Michelin restaurants. What a mess Denver International has become where Clear+ is overrun at 6:30am. No thanks. At the least the PreCheck line moved.

First up is the usual United positioning flight, today the 8am to LAX.

As newly minted United 1K (thanks to a status match) I traded the Group 1 queue...

... for the preboard queue...

It may be 29 years old, but today's 757-200 is lie flat and not a MAX.

What to expect on today's flight.  LOL,

The most pathetic snack basket ever.  Good thing I was in row 2.

Gorgeous scenery on the west bound round to LAX.

Today's on time arrival at LAX means 6 hours before my BA flight to London.

Lounge Hopping at LAX

So I have a 6 hour LAX layover, basically to avoid the 737MAX. Clearly no problem making my connection today. Since my next flight is British Airways First, I have access to both American’s Flagship Lounge and the much better Qantas First Class Lounge.

Nice work LAWA.  Let's post this post security.  LOL.

Since the AA lounge is on the way from T7 to TBIT, I stopped to check it out, do a little works and grab some breakfast… since United stiffed me on that today.

Complimentary champagne station just inside the Flagship Lounge entrance.

Reasonably adequate breakfast offerings...

AA's wine offerings.  Surprising to see a $30-$35 average retail price and a couple of 4.0 Vivino offerings.

Shades of past glory, when American actually tried.

My breakfast was tasty.

During my visit, service changed over to lunch.

Which I passed on to head on to the much nicer Qantas First Class Lounge.

Today's menu.

My go to meal in this lounge, the wonderful Salt and Pepper Squid with green chili dipping sauce and aioli.  Really good.

The Seared Baja seabass was delicious.

Bravo Qantas on your continued excellence in the First Class Lounge.

British Airways First Class to London

British Airways First Class used to be on my "no fly” list, but a lot has changed since it was dubbed “the world’s 2nd best Business Class” and featured pandemic era box meals. So I was looking forward to today’s 11 hour 777 flight to London especially at the price. This was basically a freebee as it was the final segment of last year’s Auckland-Sydney-LAX-London ticket. Excellent food and service from a lovely cabin crew and a comfortable ride in BA’s new 777 suites with doors.

My BA 77W thru the utterly filthy windows of LAX TBIT.

Gate agents invited families and Group 1 to board... but the crew wasn't ready.  So we stood/sat for 5 minutes just outside the jet bridge.

Once on board, a pleasant 8 seat First Class cabin.

BA First amenity kit.

Today's menu.

Tasty canapés with my G&T.

Showtime, BA First style.

Beef tataki starter, delivered by mistake... and quickly removed.

Crispy fried duck spring roll was tasty.

Tomato and coconut soup.

Delicious Char siu marinated pork chop...

After dinner and a movie, I managed to get a few hours sleep prior to landing.

We arrived on time and I headed for the BA Arrivals Lounge for a much needed shower... at least that was the plan.  Alas, a broken pipe in the kitchen put the showers, loos and kitchen out of service.

Brunch/Lunch at Dishoom

With 5 hours before my next flight, I decided to head into the city for my Indian food fix, although an arrival shower would have been nice... for everyone.  Thanks BA for the Arrivals Lounge “broken pipe"! Since my London fave Trishna was not open for lunch today, I headed for highly recommended Dishoom in Kensington. And since I arrived at 11:15am, I was able to sample both the breakfast and lunch menu, and the cocktail menu! I loved Dishoom. What a delightful hour in between flights.

Eyecatching cenery while waiting for my Blacklane to arrive.

OMG - the India Gimlet!

Bacon and Egg Naan Roll for my late breakfast.

Delicious!

Off the lunch menu, Chicken Ruby with Makhani Sauce.

Wow!!

Some 45 minutes later back at Heathrow, Terminal 4 this time.

Air France Business Class to Paris CDG

Back at Heathrow with plenty of time before my Air France flight to Paris, especially with a nearly one hour delay due with an early morning ATC greve in Toulouse. But what a pleasure to be back in La Première from London to Singapore. Excellent La Première ground service at Heathrow from check-in to the lounge and then to our A220 where I was pre-boarded.

Sadly, the T4 lounge situation is weak with a small screened off area for La Première pax at the back of the dreadful and noisy Plaza Premium Lounge. A far cry from the old SkyTeam Lounge which apparently was a covid casualty and never returned.

Interesting gate assignment.

At around T-35, my La Première assistant escorted me to the gate.

Where I was invited to wait for pre-boarding just after the podium.

And then pre-boarded.

Very nice and new A220 with 1-2 Business Class seating.  Those on the A side get a bocked aisle seat.

Impressive and tasty meal on a short 45 minute flight.

We arrived some 45 minutes but very close to the La Première Lounge.

La Première Lounge at Paris CDG

There is no better First Class ground experience and lounge than the Air France La Première experience at Paris CDG. La Première passengers are met in the jet bridge of their arriving flight by a personal assistant and then driving by private limo to the fabulous La Première Lounge, the best airport lounge in the world and the only lounge with a Michelin star chef. The La Première Lounge features an Alain Ducasse restaurant with great food and fine wines. After a relaxing shower, I enjoyed an amazing dinner including Alain Ducasse coquillettes jambon/truffe noir and beef aux poivres, prior to being driven to my plane for the 13 hour flight to Singapore.

My private dining room.

Iconic Alain Ducasse coquillettes avec jambon/truffe noir.  Fabulous as always.

Beef filet with peppercorn sauce.

Spectacular!

Getting ready for dessert.

The divine rum baba.

The beautiful Air France La Première cabin.

Only 2 of us tonight.

Bien sur.  Merci.

Tonight's menu...

Classy amenity kit.

Since I had just eaten in the Lounge, I went to sleep shortly after takeoff.   But not before a caviar and champagne nightcap.

I slept for nearly 7 hours which is really good for me in the air.

Excellent La Première service as usual and great food once I finally woke up.   Showtime, La Première style

Crab cake with carrot and ginger.

Poultry filet with olives, creamy spelt and rich juice.

I couldn't decide on dessert... so why not both.  LOL.

Almost there.

Arrival service was perfect with both of us each getting our own personal assistant and private golf cart ride to immigration and even beyond to my Grab ride into the city.

Andaz Singapore

As a Hyatt Globalist, I almost always choose a Hyatt on my travels.  Outstanding benefits including breakfasts and generous suite upgrades.   In the case of Singapore, The Andaz has a great location and was available for a reasonable 22,500 points per night.  From hyatt.com...

My complimentary Andaz King Suite upgrade.

Nice rooftop views..

And the 25th floor infinity pool.

Daytime view on a perfect morning.

Dinner at Michelin star Labyrinth Singapore

My first of three Michelin meals starts with Labyrinth.  Ranked #30 in Asia and #92 in the world in the 2024 World 50 Best list, Michelin star Restaurant Labyrinth Singapore is a delightful "New Singaporean" dining experience in the heart of Singapore. Chef owner LG Han showcases local Singaporean produce and flavours from his roots and memories growing up in Singapore. Exceptional service from a wonderful team in elegant low key atmosphere tucked away in busy Esplanade Mall.

Very cool personalized menu.

Otah.  Sawara, Finger lime.

Honey Soy Chicken Wing.

Roti John.  Textures of tomato.

Coin Prata.  Brillat Savarin.

Wine pairing starts with Australia.

Fabulous Rainbow Yusheng. Pickled vegetables, kaffir lime oil, local honey.

Bak Kut Teh.  Managelica pork, sea grapes, mimetic garlic cloves.

Taiwanese wine.

Chili Crab. Chili-tomato ice cream, jambu, panchino.

Bak Chor Mee.  Hokkaido scallops, pork textures.  Amazing!

Wine from Syria??  Say what?

Fish Milk Soup.

Potong. Gingerflower. Pink Peppercorn, rose petals, freeze dried pineapple.  What a taste delight.

Cab Blend from China.

Haianese Chicken Rice Donabe. Chicken soup, achar taco, grandma's chili sauce.

Ice Kachang. Coconut textures, azuki, tangerine peel.

Pasar Malam. Brown butter ice cream, warabi mochi, caviar.  Wow, wow!

And the finale to a wonderful meal and flawless service.

Since my body time was still morning, I needed a night cap.  Back to the memorable Atlas Bar which I had visited last year.  Home of more than 1,100 different gins.

The impressive gin wall.

With the assistance and guidance of Natasha, I enjoyed three of them.

Time to call it a day.  Fortunately, The Andaz was right across the street from Atlas.

Lunch at Michelin Star Burnt Ends Singapore

So happy to be back at Michelin Star Burnt Ends after a memorable lunch a couple of years ago.  What a fabulous lunch today at Burnt Ends, located in Singapore's Dempsey Hill area. Chef-owner Dave Pynt and his team delight patrons with modern Australian barbecue fare. Wonderful food in a cool atmosphere at a World’s 50 Best restaurant, moving up again on the list and currently #15 in Asia and #68 in the world.

Best Beer Name ever!

Smoked Quail Egg and Caviar.

Amazing Burnt Ends Sourdough.

Grissini and Taramasalata.

OMG, Beef Kofta to die for.

Delicious Roast Beef and Horseradish.

Fabulous Vindaloo Pork Belly.

Round 2.

And last but not least - Ongelet, Burnt Onion and Bone Marrow.

Wow!

Another incredible Burnt Ends experience.
