Our Day in Joburg
Our very reasonable Four Seasons room rates including complimentary breakfast at Flames. Beautiful late summer morning on the terrace.
Another beautiful day in Cape Town and this morning we are off for a private helicopter flight of the Cape Peninsula including Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope. A Cape Town Helicopters shuttle bus picked us up and the hotel and dropped us off at the Waterfront helipad office a few minutes later.
After a brief safety video, we were escorted to our beautiful Bell JetRanger and met our pilot Elle.
Our guide Dave met us just before 8AM and we headed out to make sure we got good seats on the 1st ferry of the day to Robben Island, the former maximum security prison, where Nelson Mandela spent many years. A little overcast at first this morning, but the clouds quickly dissipated.
We checked out and departed La Residence mid-morning and first headed to nearby Victor Verster Prison.
This is where Nelson Mandela spent his final years of incarceration before being released in February 1990, making his famous walk to freedom.
And then back to and thru Stellenbosch.
We woke to glorious skies on our first morning in Franschhoek.
A lovely setting for breakfast.
